1) Free version shows ads and requires a one-time in-app purchase to remove them and unlock certain premium icon/theme options. Ads appear in the interface and can interrupt the messaging experience; paying for cosmetic features may frustrate users who expect core messaging functions to be free.

2) RCS and advanced messaging features are inconsistent because support depends on carrier and Google’s ecosystem. Read receipts, typing indicators, high-quality media and group chat behavior may not work reliably across networks or devices, causing compatibility problems and reducing feature parity with Google Messages.

3) No official desktop or multi-device sync. Textra lacks a built-in web client or native cross-device message syncing, so sending/receiving texts from a PC or tablet requires third-party services or forwarding workarounds, making it inconvenient for users who need seamless access to messages on multiple devices.
